Description
The Post Office is a building dating to 1899, designed by Guy Dawber, incorporating earlier fabric. It is constructed from limestone rubble with a stone slate roof. The left-hand part of the facade is single-storey with an attic. It features two timber casement windows with three lights and leaded glazing, set within flat stone arches, at ground floor level. The attic is illuminated by a three-light mullioned window, rebated and chamfered, set within a dormer. To the left of the facade is an entrance to a passage, defined by a chamfered surround with a canted head. The right-hand part of the building is gabled and extends over two storeys, with an attic. A slightly bowed two-storey timber projection is present to the left, featuring five-light windows on each storey, with moulded mullions. A rendered panel sits above the lower cornice of the projection. To the right of the projection is a four-light mullioned stone window, rebated and chamfered, with a hood moulding, on both the ground and first floors. The attic is lit by a matching three-light window. A door, located to the right of the bowed projection, also has a chamfered surround. The gable is coped and topped with a finial. Chimneys are situated to the left of the front gable and at the right, both featuring tabling and moulded cornices.
