Description

A 17th-century farmhouse with an adjoining stable, altered in the early and late 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and brick additions, featuring a slate roof and brick ridge stacks to the left and right. It is two storeys high, with a cellar, and has a moulded eaves cornice on the brick section. The main facade has a 1:3:1 bay arrangement. The central three-bay section has windows with hoodmoulds: a 5-light casement and a 4-light casement on the ground floor, and three 3-light casements on the first floor. The central entrance is sheltered by a porch with a swept hipped lead canopy supported by cast iron brackets and decorative openwork panels, leading to a chamfered doorway with a 4-centred arched head and a ledged and battened door. To the left, a single bay has a ground floor 3-light casement and a first floor 2-light casement. A single bay to the right features a ground floor C19 canted bay window and a 2-light first floor casement. The rear elevation retains some original chamfered mullioned windows with hoodmoulds and a chamfered doorway with a 4-centred head. A large, external C17 chimney with offsets is also located at the rear. The stable adjoins the right gable end and is built of rubble with a slate roof. It is likely of three bays, with two rectangular lights in the front elevation and an attic light in its gable end. The farmhouse and stable are situated near Cider Mill Cottages and Old Thatch and are included for group value.
