Description

The Russell Almshouses, dating from 1697, consist of a single-storeyed range built in red brick, arranged around three sides of a small courtyard. In front, there is a low stone wall. The building features two cambered two-light casements and one casement in each of the projecting wings. There are six moulded wood doorcases, and a central stone armorial cartouche that is richly decorated. The wings of the building have gabled ends, with stone quoins and plinths. The Russell Almshouses, along with the School House at No. 1 Hill View Road, form a group of notable structures.
