Description
The Almshouses, built in 1628, are a single-storey group of small dwellings arranged on three sides of a courtyard, with the fourth side facing the churchyard. They feature red tile roofs with gables on the north and south sides, as well as a modern extension at the north-east corner that has a hipped roof at the south-east corner. The walls are made of red brick in English bond, with hood-moulds over most windows, chamfered reveals, and a high plinth. A passageway runs along the axis and has four-centred arches, with two additional arched doorways that have been filled with windows. Symmetrically placed large chimney breasts rise to square bases for diagonal flues. While a few original small windows remain, most have been replaced with larger modern casements. The doors are plain and set in solid frames. A low wall on the north side of the courtyard features piers in the center, with a wall between them pierced by a four-centred arch that holds a wrought-iron gate.
