Description
The Church of All Saints, dating from the 13th century with significant alterations around 1500, features a chancel and the base of the west tower from the earlier period. The later rebuilding has resulted in a chancel with two arcades, a nave with three arches on the north side from the 14th century and four arches on the south side from the 13th century, along with a western tower and north and south chapels that create a three-gable east wall. The north and south aisles surround the tower. The roofing is made of red tiles arranged in three lines, slightly dropping at the east end. The walls are constructed from flint, with varying amounts of stone rubble and some brickwork, and there are seven stepped buttresses along the long sides. A continuous plinth runs along the base. Most windows feature traceried lights in the Decorated and Perpendicular styles, all of which are restorations, with two smaller three-light windows set within square frames. The two stages of the tower above the eaves level date from the mid-17th century and include classical details in red brick, such as small corner pinnacles from the early 19th century, a crenellated parapet, thin corner buttresses with Ionic caps, and moulded stone bands above a brick fillet on dentils. A prominent feature is the round-headed bell-stage opening, which has rusticated sides and voussoirs, framed by Ionic pilasters, a moulded brick entablature, and a base band on dentils. Inside the church, there is a 17th-century pulpit, galleries from 1632, a series of small brasses, a Royal Coat of Arms from 1661, a church warden's chest, and a font dating from around 1500.
