Description

Glebe Farmhouse is a former rectory that dates from the 14th to the 17th century. It features a timber frame and painted brick construction, arranged in an L shape with two storeys and an attic in the east end cross-wing. The roofs are covered with plain tiles, gable-ended on the cross-wing and half-hipped at the west end of the rear range. There is a large external stack on a stone base on the east wall of the cross-wing, along with two ridge stacks on the rear range, the rearmost being a 16th-century triple stack with diagonal shafts set within the main stack. The cross-wing has exposed timbers, while the rear wing is largely encased in brick. The cross-wing at the front is from the 16th to 17th century, with the north gable extended in the 17th century and an additional small gable on the west side. The north front has one window on the ground floor and two casement windows above, with four tiers of timber weathering. The rear wing may have origins in the 14th century at the west end, featuring a former 16th-century open hall in the centre, with massive timbers and evidence of a raised roof at the west end. One first-floor room has small plaster fleur-de-lys decorations on the ceiling. The western end bay is a later addition, with a brick exterior casing, cambered head windows, and two dormers on each side.
