Description

Little Lodge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame and rendered infill, topped by a plain tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays aligned east to west, featuring a central chimney with two diagonal brick ridge stacks located between the two easternmost bays and a former lobby entrance. The farmhouse has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar.

The framing mainly consists of four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners. The east gable end displays a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, two struts to the lower collar, and a concave-sided V-strut in the apex. The west end truss is of a similar design but likely dates from a slightly later period, featuring three struts to a single collar and a V-strut above.

On the south front elevation, the ground floor includes a 2-light and a 3-light casement window, while the first floor has a 3-light casement. The former main entrance has a 4-panelled 20th-century door, with the current main entrance located in a 20th-century lean-to addition at the rear right.

Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered main beams with stepped ogee stops and a large sandstone fireplace. A moulded decorated console at attic level on the outer side of the central bay's west wall suggests that the west bay may be a later addition. Additionally, there is a large two-storey and cellar addition from around 1860 attached to the rear of the west bay, which includes a long single-storey wing on its east side, running parallel to the original house. The farm is part of the former Bearcroft Estate.
