Description
Keepers Lodge is a house dating from the early 17th century, which was restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick and rendered infill, topped by a plain tiled roof. The house consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, with external chimneys at each gable end. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses at the gable ends. The east end truss has three struts to the collar and a king-post to the apex, while the west end truss is obscured by the chimney.
On the south front elevation, there are 2-light 20th-century casement windows with semi-circular headed narrow lights. The ground floor features five windows, a blocked doorway, and a 19th-century narrow stairlight, along with two gabled dormers that have weatherboarded cheeks. Lean-to additions are present at the gabled ends, including what is likely a bread oven at the west end, as well as attic lights at the gable ends. The main entrance has been relocated to a large 20th-century extension at the rear of the west bay. Keepers Lodge is part of the former Bearcroft Estate.
