Description
Checkett's Farmhouse is a timber-frame farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. The farmhouse is largely clad in rendered brick and sits on a sandstone plinth, with a tile roof. It is arranged as a T-plan, comprising a main range extending north and an east/west cross-wing. The main range has three framed bays and a large chimney stack where it joins the cross-wing. The east front has one storey with an attic. It is lit by a casement window in the gable of the cross-wing to the left and two gabled dormers in the main range to the right. The ground floor of the cross-wing features an angled bay window with a hipped tile roof. A 20th-century studded door is set within a porch at the junction of the main range and cross-wing. There are two 2-light casement windows to the left of the main range, and to the right is a small, gabled wing with an adjoining porch. The north gable displays two large, rectangular panels with curved angle braces. The roof truss features two raking struts to the collar.
