Description
Moat bridge, gate piers, and gates located about 5 yards north-east of Huddington Court date back to the 16th century and were restored in the mid-20th century. They are constructed from handmade brick in English bond with sandstone dressings. The bridge measures approximately 12 yards long and 3 yards wide, featuring a very small central elliptical arch, above which is a sandstone course and a single-course brick band. The parapet has sandstone coping and recessed panels with sections of balustrading. The west end of the bridge concludes with short square piers topped with pyramidal capping and urns. The south pier has a 2-yard long return adjoining the bridge pier, leading to similar gate piers next to the house. The east end of the bridge finishes with tall square gate piers that also have pyramidal capping and lion finials, supporting a large pair of ornate cast iron gates from the late 18th century.
