Description

The Grove is a house, likely dating from the mid-18th century, that has been converted into flats. It was altered in the mid-19th century and has a rear extension from that period. It is constructed of pinkish-red brick laid in an English Garden Wall bond, with a hipped roof covered in plain tiles. There are substantial brick stacks on the left and right hips of the roof.

The house has a double-depth plan and a central entrance. It is two storeys high with attics, and features three windows on the first floor. A plinth runs along the base of the building. The windows are timber casements, mostly replacements, with three lights and a transom. A central two-light window is similar in style, all set under cambered arches. The central entrance has a flight of steps leading to a six-panel door, with lower flush panels and upper raised and fielded panels, surmounted by a divided overlight and a hood. A decorative modillion eaves band runs along the roofline. Three gabled attic dormers feature casement windows. Windows on the right return are arched at the top within elliptical arches.

The interior retains an oak staircase with turned balusters rising to the full height of the house. The building was originally constructed on a moated site.
