Description
Nos. 14 and 15 Britannia Square are a pair of semi-detached houses, built around 1820 and forming part of a larger terrace that adjoins Nos. 10 to 13. They are constructed of painted stucco over brick, with a concealed slate roof. A stuccoed party wall stack with overhanging detail and decorative pots rises from the roof, while a brick stack similarly terminates the rear roof slope. The buildings have a double-depth plan, with entrances at each end of the facade. They are three storeys high and feature four windows across the first floor (arranged as 2:2). Stucco detailing includes half-height pilasters at the ends and centre, rising from a band below the first-floor window sills. A frieze, cornice, and parapet with coping complete the facade. The entrances are defined by moulded architraves. The ground-floor windows are 8/8 sashes, first-floor windows are 6/6 sashes, and second-floor windows are 3/6 sashes, all set in plain reveals with sills. Three roll-edged steps lead to the entrance, where a six-panel door is located; the bottom pair of panels are flush-beaded, the upper panels raised and fielded with bolection moulding, and the design is topped by a Gothic fanlight. The right return elevation is of unpainted brick. Single-storey service ranges are situated at the rear.
All listed buildings within Britannia Square form a unified group, the development having started in 1820 and planned around a large green. It is comparable to other developments in Worcester, including Lansdowne Crescent, Lark Hill, and Rainbow Hill Terrace.
