Description

The building comprises two semi-detached houses, dating from around 1820, with later additions and alterations. They are constructed of painted stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof. The roof has party wall stacks to the front and rear slopes, each featuring oversailing courses and pots. The front stack is stuccoed. The houses have a double-depth plan with entrances in the return elevations. They are three storeys high with two first-floor windows. Stucco detailing includes a plinth, sills, and incised lines intended to imitate ashlar. There are castellated screen walls, single storey in height, set back to the left and right returns. These are pierced by an open doorway flanked by blind windows with sills, all featuring pointed arches; similarly arched integral boot scrapers are situated on either side of the opening. Ground floor windows are sash windows with 8/8 glazing, except for the second floor, which has 4/8 sashes to the left-hand house and 4/4 sashes to the right-hand house. All windows are in plain reveals with sills. A two-storey wing with a parapeted flat roof extends from the rear of the left return, featuring a 5-panel door flanked by 4/4 sash windows with a 3-pane overlight; an 8/8 sash window is positioned on the first floor right, beneath a segmental brick arch; and a single light casement occupies the left side. A single-storey wing to the right-hand house has a small 20th-century 4-pane window. The original position of the door in the return wall has been retained. The door is configured with five panels, the bottom pair flush-beaded, the middle pair and top panel glazed with leaded lights, and it is framed by a fluted doorcase with a cantilevered canopy featuring dentils.

The listed buildings in Britannia Square form a unified group, initiated in 1820 and planned around a large green. The properties are comparable to similar developments in Worcester such as Lansdowne Crescent, Lark Hill, and Rainbow Hill Terrace.
