Description
The property comprises two semi-detached houses, dating to circa 1820, and subject to later additions and alterations. The construction is painted stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof and party wall stacks featuring brick detailing and decorative pots. The layout is double-depth, with outer ranges set back and with concealed roofs. The houses are three storeys high, presenting six windows (a 1:4:1 arrangement) to the first floor. Stucco detailing includes a sill band to both the first and second floors, a plain frieze beneath the eaves, and triple angled corners. The main range features tall 6/9 sashes to the first and ground floors, while the outer ranges have 6/6 sashes to the first and ground floors. The second-floor windows are 3/6 sashes. Entrances are located at the ends of the main range, each featuring a five-panel door within a panelled reveal, topped by a fanlight with radial glazing bars. The interior retains original plasterwork and joinery, including a curved open-well staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail, alongside a Regency-style marble fireplace.
The listed buildings of Britannia Square form a unified group, initiated in 1820 and planned around a central green. The development is comparable to other similar, albeit smaller, developments in Worcester, such as Lansdowne Crescent, Lark Hill, and Rainbow Hill Terrace.
