Description
No. 30 Britannia Square is a villa built around 1820, with later additions and alterations. It features painted stucco over brick and a hipped slate roof, which has a partially renewed end stack with brick oversailing detail and pots. The building has a central hallway and a double-depth plan, standing two storeys tall with three first-floor windows. The stucco detailing includes a central break that projects forward, full-height pilaster strips at the ends, a plinth, a crowning frieze, and wide eaves. The outer windows are 8/8 sashes, while the central first-floor window is a 6/6 sash, all set in plain reveals with sills and fitted with louvered shutters. The central entrance features a six-panel door, with the upper panels raised and fielded, the lower panels flush, and a fanlight with radial glazing bars, all within panelled reveals and a Doric-style porch. The interior has not been inspected.
All the listed buildings in Britannia Square form a cohesive group, initiated in 1820 and arranged around a large green where the main house, 'Springfield', is located. This development is comparable to similar, though smaller, residential areas in Worcester, such as Lansdowne Crescent, Lark Hill, and Rainbow Hill Terrace.
