Description
No. 34, Britannia Square is a villa dating to around 1820, with subsequent additions and alterations. The exterior is painted stucco over brickwork, with a concealed roof and partially rebuilt end stacks featuring brickwork that projects outwards and decorative pots. The building has a double-depth plan, incorporating an entrance hall on the right-hand side. It is two storeys high with a basement. The facade features stucco detailing, including a crowning frieze and parapet. The first floor has 8/8 sashes, while the ground floor has taller 8/12 sashes, all set in plain reveals with sills. The entrance, located on the right, features a five-panel door with the lower pair being flush-beaded and the others raised and fielded. It has a fanlight with a segmental pattern of glazing bars, panelled reveals, and a doorcase comprising fluted pilasters with roundels and an open pediment. A dormer window with a cambered roof is positioned slightly to the right of the centre. The interior has not been inspected.
The listed buildings in Britannia Square together form a cohesive group, initiated in 1820 and designed around a central green. The main house, known as 'Springfield' (listed separately), is located on this green. The design is comparable to other developments in Worcester, including Lansdowne Crescent, Lark Hill, and Rainbow Hill Terrace.
