Description
No. 2 Rainbow Hill Terrace is a terraced house built around 1830 to 1850, with later additions and alterations. The exterior features painted stucco over brick and a slate roof, with brick parapeted gables that have brick coping. The left gable is curvilinear and includes a stack with a cornice and pots, along with wide eaves. The house has a double-depth plan with a hall to the right.
The building is two storeys high with a basement and has three first-floor windows. Stucco detailing includes a full-width plain band above the ground-floor windows, an eaves band with brackets to the soffit, and rectangular recessed panels between each bracket. There are corbels under the window sills, moulded architraves around the ground-floor windows, and pilasters with console brackets and a moulded cornice at the entrance. The windows are all 2/2 sashes with horns set in plain reveals with sills. The entrance features six stone steps with low flanking walls, a six-panel door with the top four panels raised and fielded with bolection moulding, and the bottom pair flush-beaded, along with matching panelled reveals and an overlight.
Inside, the house retains original features, including cornices, panelled doors, architraves, and skirtings. Historically, Nos. 1-10 Rainbow Hill Terrace form a notable group of listed buildings that compare well with other developments from this period in Worcester, such as Britannia Square, Lansdowne Crescent, and Lark Hill.
