Description
38 The Tything is a house that now operates as a restaurant on the ground floor, and it is part of a terrace. It was built in the late 18th century and has had later additions and alterations. The structure is made of red brick, with painted stucco on the ground floor and decorative details. It features a plain clay tile roof and has a tall stack on the left gable end, which has an oversailing detail and chimney pots.
The building has three storeys and two windows on the first floor. The stucco detailing includes a plain frieze at the dentilled eaves, keystones that are capped on the ground and first floors, and sills at the window openings. The second floor has 3/3 sash windows, while the other floors have 6/6 sash windows, all set in near-flush frames. The entrance features a six-panel door with a petal-pattern fanlight, and the doorcase is adorned with pilasters, console brackets, and an open pediment. The interior has not been inspected.
