Description
21 London Road is a house with attached railings and a gate, situated on a steeply sloping site. The main entrance facade, which is on the left return, dates from around 1800 to 1820 and features later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with flat window arches made of dark red brick and stone sills. It has a hipped slate roof and rear brick stacks with oversailing courses and pots, along with cast-iron railings and a gate.
The main facade consists of three storeys and features three first-floor windows, with a basement on the right. The first floor has original 6/6 sash windows, while the second floor has 3/3 sashes, all set in plain reveals with flat arches of gauged brick and stone sills. The ground floor includes a central entrance with a six-panel door, where the lower two panels are flush, and a fanlight with radial glazing bars, framed by pilasters. To the left, there is a canted bay window with 8/8 and 4/4 sashes, and to the right, a 6/6 sash window in plain reveals with a flat arch and sill. The basement entrance on the right features a flush-panel door.
On the return facade facing London Road, there are three storeys above a basement, with one first-floor window. The first floor has a 6/6 sash window, the second floor has a 3/3 sash, and the basement has a 2/2 sash, all with flat arches of gauged brick and stone sills. The ground floor features a bow window with an 8/8 sash flanked by 4/4 sashes.
The interior has not been inspected. The subsidiary features include stick railings to the right of the main entrance for approximately one metre, and the gate attached to the basement entrance has dog-bars and scrolls.
