Description

This is an early 19th-century house, now used as offices. It is located on Pierpoint Street in Worcester and forms a group with numbers 12, 12A, and 13 Pierpoint Street, and 4 and 6 Sansome Walk.

The exterior is built of reddish-brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern with a hipped slate roof. There are three tall brick stacks, two at the left end and one at the right, each with overhanging courses and decorative pots. The front of the house has three windows on the first floor. The ground floor windows are 8/8 sashes, while the first floor has a 6/6 sash in the centre and 8/8 sashes to the sides. The second floor windows are 3/3 in the centre and 4/4 to the sides. All windows are in plain reveals, with sills and flat arches of gauged brick. A central entrance has three steps leading to a four-panel door; the lower panels are flush-beaded and the upper panels are glazed. The fanlight above the door has Gothick glazing bars, set within a plain surround with a tooled, round arch. The rear elevation has 6/6, 6/6, 3/3, and 3/6 sashes. There’s a four-panel door at the rear with flush-beaded lower panels and glazed upper panels.

Inside, there are dogleg staircases at the front and rear. The rear staircase has turned balusters and a lion-paw foot. A head stop is present on the arch in the rear lobby, and the reveals are panelled. Some marble fireplaces remain. According to historical records, what is now the rear of the house was originally the front. An original Westmorland slate chimney pot is preserved within the building. The house appears in Nash’s 1781 history of Worcestershire.
