Description

The barn and adjoining stable block, located about 30 yards south of Ham Green Farmhouse, date back to the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill and is partly weatherboarded, sitting on a sandstone base, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. It likely consists of five framed bays arranged in a north-west to south-east orientation, featuring a wagon bay that is the second from the north-west end, which has opposing cart entries that are now blocked. The framing includes a single row of panels visible at the eaves level on the south-east end, long straight braces in the lower corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses; the truss at the south-east end has two struts to the collar and raking struts in the lower corners. The main north-east elevation has two doors, and there is access to the loft at the south-east gable end. The interior has not been inspected. There are 20th-century additions to the south-west elevation. The six-bay stable block is attached to the north-west bay on the north-east side. This building forms a group with Ham Green Farmhouse and is included for its group value.
