Description
Huck's Farmhouse and the adjoining dairy range are a farmhouse and dairy range dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the early 19th century. The building features a mix of timber framing with painted brick infill and brick, topped with a double span roof that has slate on the front range and tiles at the rear, along with end brick stacks that have offsets.
The structure consists of two parallel ranges of three bays aligned on a north-west/south-east axis, with the south-east range incorporating much of the earlier farmhouse. It stands three storeys tall. The framing includes irregular panels, primarily five from the sill to the original wall-plate, with long, straight braces in the lower outer corners of the ground and first floor levels, and queen strut trusses in the gable ends.
The front elevation, facing south-east, was completely altered in the early 19th century, raising the roof to create a symmetrical facade. The ground floor features a bay window on the left and a 20th-century casement on the right. The first floor has outer windows that are 20-pane sashes flanking a central 16-pane sash, while the second floor has outer 15-pane sashes and a central 12-pane sash. The central doorway has a six-panelled door that is raised and fielded, with the upper panels glazed. It is sheltered by a trellised timber porch topped with a swept lead canopy and scalloped decoration.
Inside, some stop-chamfered beams remain. To the right side elevation, there is a brick range that was formerly a dairy, scullery, and likely used for hop drying. This two-storey structure features a dentilled eaves cornice and three bays with an outshut to the rear. The front elevation has three ground floor casements with cambered heads and three first floor casements. The interior includes timber-framed partitions.
