Description
Rye Court Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century with late 18th century and 19th century alterations. It features a combination of timber-framing and brick, topped with a tiled roof. The main part of the east facade has two 19th century square bay windows on the ground floor. Above these, on the first floor, are two sashed windows with glazing bars, which have gauged brick heads and keystones. The right-hand keystone is inscribed with the year "1775". There is a door situated between the bays, which is sheltered by an iron lattice porch with a lead roof. To the right, there is an adjoining bay that also has sashed windows with glazing bars and segmental heads. Set back to the right is a gabled wing that displays exposed timber-framing in square panels. This wing has a sashed window with glazing bars on each floor. The exposed truss in this wing features a tie-beam and two collars, with struts and herringbone bracing above the tie-beam. The property has chimneys located on the left-hand wall of the wing, to the right of the wing forward of the ridge, and on the ridge to the right of the bay window. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey conducted in 1986.
