Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was originally built as a rectory in the early 19th century. It features mainly stuccoed brick construction and has shallow-pitched, partly hipped slate roofs with grouped stuccoed ridge stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a chamfered plinth, a moulded sill string at the first floor level, and a modillion eaves cornice.

The elevation facing Church Street consists of three bays, with the outer bays projecting forward. These outer bays have large 12-paned sash windows on the ground floor and smaller 12-paned sash windows on the first floor, both framed by moulded eared architraves. The central bay features a tripartite ground floor window that includes a central 12-pane sash flanked by two outer 4-pane sashes, all topped with a moulded cornice and pilasters. A smaller version of this window is located on the first floor.

The entrance elevation on the south side also has three bays and includes 12-pane sashes with moulded eared architraves on both storeys, with the first-floor windows being smaller. A prominent feature of this elevation is a large central tetrastyle Ionic portico. Inside the portico, there is a six-panelled door accompanied by a transom light and side lights, which are decorated with a painted scene and hop bouquets.
