Description

The Cottage is a late 17th and early 18th century cottage located in Severn Stoke Naunton, near Birch Green. It is timber-framed with brick, stone, and plaster infill, and has a plain tile roof. The building follows an L-shaped plan. It has a box-frame construction with thin braces. The cottage is one storey high with an attic. It originally comprised two cells, with the south-western cell potentially being older. A later L-shaped wing was added to the rear, and a 20th-century lean-to obscures the front facade. The windows are mostly 19th-century casements, along with one dormer and two gable-end windows on the south-western side of the building. A large chimney is located on the north-eastern side with a detached shaft, and a side chimney is on the south-east. The interior retains chamfered beams, but also includes a 19th-century staircase. This cottage was one of those belonging to the Coventry Estate and was once divided into two dwellings.
