Description
Birch Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse constructed of red brick, with an attached stable and barn range that includes elements from the 18th century. The farmhouse is two stories high and features a low-pitched slate gabled roof. The front has a regular arrangement of three windows, with brick dentilled eaves. The windows have cambered heads, and the ground floor is finished with rubbed brick. The small-pane casements include top lights for the ground floor windows. The central door has a gauged brick flat head and a six-pane overlight.
To the west side of the house is the attached stable and barn range, which has a gable end facing both north and south. The south end of this range is timber-framed, showcasing an exposed queen post tie beam and collar truss in the gable. The north end, which is adjacent to the house, is made of 19th-century brick and features two cambered head triple casements with leaded lights, along with two doors that have gauged brick flat heads. The brick facing continues on the west side of the timber-framed range, which includes an arched head stable door and two lunette windows with glazing bars. The interior of this range has an inserted floor.
