Description
Lower Farm Cottages, now two separate properties, date from around 1800. The front range is built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a low-pitched slate roof. The three-bay façade features eight/eight pane sash windows at ground and first floor, and six/six pane sashes in the centre, all with flat gauged brick arches and wooden architraves. Upper floor windows are four/four pane sashes. A modillion cornice runs along the eaves, and there are brick stacks at the gable ends. The central doorway has flush panels and a round-arched head with a radiating bar fanlight. A later brick porch with a round-arched opening and a stepped string course is positioned in front of the door. Behind the original range is a parallel range, now the separate property number 2. This section dates from the mid-to-late 19th century and is also built of brick with a plain tiled roof. It is two stories high and comprises paired ranges with hipped roofs and a modillion eaves cornice. A brick stack is to the left, and another projects from the right side. Most windows are wooden casements with brick sills; ground-floor windows have segmental arched openings. The interior was not inspected. Lower Farm Cottages are a good example of restrained, classical rural architecture and contribute to the group value of listed buildings in Severn Stoke.
