Description
Bewell is a house dating from the early 17th century, with 19th-century alterations and additions. It features a timber-framed structure with brick infill and a tiled roof. The building has a baffle entry, a two-bay main range, and a two-bay cross-wing, standing two storeys plus an attic. All windows are fitted with leaded lights. The main elevation includes a 19th-century gabled porch on the left bay with a timber doorcase, and a 17th-century timber section in the lintel inscribed "1627." The right bay has a 19th-century ground floor oriel window and a 19th-century first floor casement. The gable end of the cross-wing features a 19th-century ground floor oriel window, a 20th-century first floor casement, and a 20th-century attic casement. Above the entrance bay, there is a cluster of four brick chimney stacks with oversailing cap courses, which have been rebuilt. The rear of the house has various 19th and 20th-century extensions.
