Description

Avenue Cottage is a house dating from the mid- to late 17th century, which was restored around 1980. It features a combination of timber-framing and brick, topped with a thatched roof. The cottage is one storey high with an attic and is framed in two rows of square panels set on a brick plinth. It has two bays and the windows are 20th-century casements. There are thatched dormers in the attic. The main floor beams are tusk-tenoned through the front wall posts. A projecting brick chimney with offsets is located on the left-hand gable. The door is situated to the right of the chimney in the left-hand gable wall. Part of the truss is exposed in this wall, showing vertical struts between the tie-beam and collar, along with V-struts above.
