Description

Lower Farmhouse, also shown on the Ordnance Survey as Hillside Farm, is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. It features a timber-frame structure with brick infill and a plain tile roof. There are brick stacks at the rear and on the left end of the building. The farmhouse is 1½ storeys high, with an attic that is lit by an eyebrow dormer located to the left of center, suggesting it may have originally had thatch roofing. The front has three 18th-century casement windows, with entrances on the left and right sides. At the rear, there is a brick outshut. The framing on the ground floor has mostly been replaced, but it retains three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate with straight braces. The roof was originally supported by three queen struts, with V struts in the apex.
