Description

This boundary post, dating from the mid 19th century, is made of cast iron and features a rounded top. It has relief lettering that reads "CLERKENWELL/1866/Wm. GILLINGWATER/FRED. Wm. WILLCOCKS/CHURCH/WARDENS." It is part of a group of boundary posts that were installed to mark the boundary of the Clerkenwell estate, which was given as a gift by Sir George Strode to the poor of the parish of Clerkenwell in London in the mid 17th century.
