Description
NEWLAND CP - SO 74 NE 5/81 Hall and two pairs of gates to south of Beauchamp Almshouses, returning for approximately 20 metres at east side and incorporating third pair of gates GV II Wall and three pairs of gates. Late C19, with one pair of C18 gates. Brick with stone coping and wrought iron gates. Low wall has two pairs of plain late C19 iron gates. On the axis of the gatehouse are gates bought in 1871 and said to be part of the choir gates of Cologne Cathedral. They have iron openwork piers and a scrolled overthrow with shield. (BoE, p 225).
