Description
Ivy Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The structure is primarily built of handmade brick, featuring some timber-framing with brick infill at the rear, and has a sandstone base. It has plain tiled roofs with parapets at the gable ends. The building has a rectangular two-bay plan oriented north-east to south-west, with a large central chimney and a group of four brick ridge stacks, forming a lobby-entry layout. There is a small staircase wing at the rear. The house is two storeys high and has a two-course band between the storeys.
The north-west front elevation is symmetrical with a two-bay gabled front, featuring 3-light 19th-century casement windows on both storeys. The ground floor windows have cambered heads, while the left first-floor window is blocked. The central entrance includes a 6-panelled door with a cambered head. Inside, the main ceiling beams are stop-chamfered, and there are large back-to-back fireplaces along with a winder staircase in the rear wing. Ivy Cottage was originally part of the Amphlett estate.
