Description

Clent House, originally built as stables in 1709, has been converted into a house around 1955, with further alterations and additions in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from handmade red brick in Flemish bond, featuring sandstone dressings and a base. It has a plain tiled hipped roof with overhanging bracketed eaves and two large panelled brick ridge stacks. The structure is two storeys high, with a moulded stone band between the storeys and a moulded eaves cornice.

The façade consists of 4:3:4 bays, with the central bays projecting under a pedimented gable. The building has end quoins, and the windows, which date from the mid-20th century, have gauged flat heads and moulded keyblocks, mostly designed as acanthus leaves. The ground floor features cross-casements, while the first floor has 2-light casements. The pedimented gable includes a 12-sided clock face.

The central entrance is accentuated by a segmental pediment, fluted pilasters, an entablature, and an 8-panelled door from the mid-20th century. The first and second bays on the left have large double doors with cambered heads, while the third and fourth bays contain a larger set of double doors. To the left of these is a narrow door with a transom light that has three glazing bars.

At the peak of the roof ridge is a cupola featuring an octagonal base with a basket-arched arcade, a modillion cornice, a domical lead roof, and a ball finial. The interior has been remodelled, and there is a mid-20th century wing to the rear right, along with a late 20th century single-storey addition to the rear left. This building was originally the stables for Clent House, an early 18th-century residence that served as the seat of the Amphlett family, which was demolished in the early 20th century.
