Description

Lock number 53 on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal was built around 1805 and has undergone some repairs in the late 19th century and mid-20th century. It features a rectangular chamber with stone copings, which have been repaired with concrete. At the upper end, there is a single gate, while the lower end has a pair of gates. The mouth of the lock is constructed from blue brick with brick copings and includes steps on the north side. This lock is included for its group value and is part of the Tardebigge Flight, which is the longest flight of locks in England.
