Description
Scarfields Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse, restored in the late 20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill and a tile roof, and has a T-plan layout, with a cross-wing aligned north/south and another range extending east. A lateral stack to the cross-wing has two brick shafts in a six-point star plan. The north front features a gabled cross-wing of two storeys with an attic lit by a 2-light casement. The first floor has two 2-light casements and a tiled weathering; the ground floor has a 2-light casement. To the left is a slightly later 2-storey bay with a 2-light casement on the first floor and two 2-light casements on the ground floor. To the right is a range with a 3-light casement on the first floor and a lean-to 20th-century timber-framed porch on the ground floor, containing a 20th-century ledged and boarded door. The timber framing comprises two square panels in height, with straight angle braces to the first floor and close-studding to the ground floor. The interior includes exposed beams with stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and 17th-century panelling in a rear room of the cross-wing.
