Description
The Catholic Church of St Wulstan and St Oswald is a building that was originally a barn or stable, dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-18th century and mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill, although much of the building has been refaced with painted brick, and there are sections of replacement walling and additions. The church has a sandstone base and a plain tiled roof, consisting of four bays aligned from the north-east to the south-west.
The second bay from the north-east end displays exposed framing on its north-west elevation, featuring two large panels that extend from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. There are two 2-light leaded windows located near the eaves level on the side elevations. The main entrance is situated in the north-east gable end, featuring a door with a cambered head, and above it is a pointed window with leaded glass, topped with a crucifix at the gable apex. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. Additionally, there is a mid-19th century single-storey addition that adjoins the south-west gable end, which includes a door on its south-east side and an end stack.
