Description

Green Hills Farmhouse is a timber-frame farmhouse, originally built in the mid-17th century, with significant remodelling in the early 18th and early 19th centuries, and some later 20th-century alterations. The building has an H-shaped plan, with the main range aligned east to west. The early 18th-century main range connects to a 17th-century frame in the east wing, featuring a chimney with three brick shafts designed with six-pointed star plans. A further cross-wing was added in the early 18th century to the west.

The south front has two storeys; the central block features a band and dentil brick cornice. It has a symmetrical arrangement of one window in the centre, and two windows on either side. The ground floor has three-light casement windows, while the upper floor has a three-light casement and three two-light casements. A 20th-century gabled porch with a wooden architrave and a half-glazed door is situated at the left-hand end of the main range. A second 20th-century door, approached by three steps, is located to the left of the right-hand cross-wing. The timber-framing on the first floor is arranged in two square panels, with straight angle braces and struts to the collar.

Inside the west cross-wing, the inglenook fireplace has an 18th-century moulded mantle shelf and a spit rack.
