Description
The Old Swan Inn is a public house located on Bridgnorth Road in Wolverhampton. It dates from the mid to late 18th century, with early 19th-century additions. The building is constructed of painted brick and features tiled roofs, arranged in a right-angle plan. It stands three stories tall and has a three-window range, with a two-storey wing extending to the east.
Notable architectural features include a brick platt band above the ground floor and a dentilled frieze. The segmental-headed windows are fitted with 16-pane sashes, while the central first-floor window has a 12-pane sash, and the second floor has two 9-pane sashes. The central entrance is accentuated by a plastered porch, an overlight, and paired panelled doors. There are end stacks on the building, and an enriched scrolled wrought-iron sign bracket is located at the south end. The wing has a hipped roof and cornice, with ground floor windows featuring wedge lintels. Each floor of the wing has a 20-pane sash, and the left side of the ground floor has a 12-pane sash, along with an end entrance.
Later additions have been made to the west and north sides of the building. Inside, the interior features chamfered beams and some splat balusters on the stairs.
