Description

Avenue House Lodge, dating circa 1840, serves as an entrance building to Avenue House. Constructed primarily of brick with stucco dressings, it features a hipped slate roof and plastered stacks. The lodge is two storeys high and has a two-window facade. A blue brick plinth and an ashlar platt band mark the ground floor. The segmental-headed windows are framed with plain ashlar surrounds, with chamfered openings. Ground-floor windows have nine-pane sashes over recessed apron panels, while first-floor windows feature six-pane sashes. A cross-axial stack is notable for its round shafts and cornices. The left return displays a single window on each floor, alongside a gabled porch on the right end. The segmental-headed entrance is accessed via a six-panel door. A rounded angle is present on the left end. The right return includes a 20th-century porch and a tripartite horned sash window above. The property is approached via paired gates flanked by chamfered brick piers with ashlar caps and ball finials; one gate is iron, the other is made of wood. The interior remains unexamined.
