Description

Woodfields is a house, now serving as an old people's residence, built in the late 18th century with a rear wing added in the 1820s and a later addition from the late 19th century. The building is constructed of roughcast brick and features tile roofs with brick stacks. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a six-window range. The eaves are modillioned, and the ground floor includes two 12-pane horned sash windows, three narrow sash windows, and two casement windows. The first floor has four-pane horned sash windows, with the window above the entrance flanked by narrow windows. The entrance features a consoled cornice and an overlight above paired panelled doors. There are two cross-axial stacks and a lateral stack. The right side of the building has a hipped bow window. The rear of the house has a four-window early 19th-century range with a hipped roof and wide eaves, featuring two horned sash windows and two French windows. The late 19th-century range to the right has a hipped roof with a gablet and a bowed first-floor oriel window with leaded glazing. Inside, the rear rooms have cornices and fireplaces, while the front range includes a staircase with turned balusters. Late 19th-century alterations include heavy chamfered posts and beams, as well as an inglenook fireplace. Woodfields was the home of Edward Banks, a notable 19th-century architect from Wolverhampton.
