Description

This is a late 18th-century house, now converted into flats, located off Newton Road in Great Barr, Sandwell. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick with a hipped tile roof covered in felt and exemplifies the Gothick style. It presents a symmetrical facade of two storeys and five bays. The windows are sash windows with Gothic glazing patterns set within architraves featuring pointed heads. A sill band runs along the first floor. The central first-floor window is distinguished by its architrave, incorporating pilasters and an ogee head. The central doorway is topped by a pointed-head porch, ornamented with a Gothic order of clustered columns and a frieze combining triglyphs and quatrefoils. Chimneys are set back from the ridge on each side. The return walls are of four bays on the right, with the left-hand wall blind, and a blind window on the ground floor of the right-hand return. A Gothick doorcase with a stair window above is located in the third bay of the right-hand return.
