Description
Middle Lock is part of a flight of three locks on the Wolverhampton Level of the Birmingham Canal, likely built around 1790. This construction followed the reduction of Brindley's original flight of six locks, which was established in 1769. The lock is made of brick and features sandstone kerbstones, though some have been replaced with concrete. It is equipped with cast-iron sluice gear. The upper gate is single, while the lower gate is double. Notably, the Old Main Line on the Wolverhampton Level was bypassed by Telford's New Main Line on the Birmingham Level in 1829.
