Description
The premises occupied by Archibald Kenrick and Sons, built in the 1880s, serve as offices and stores for engineering works. Constructed from brick with some stone and terra cotta dressings, the building features tile roofs and is designed in a Gothic style. It stands three storeys tall with seven gables facing Hall Street.
The ground floor showcases an arcade of 14 pointed arches, which are chamfered in three orders. All arches contain windows except for the 12th, which has a door. The two central gabled sections consist of three bays each, with the central bays featuring paired windows separated by shafts, all set within a two-storey recess that has a cusped round opening beneath a pointed head.
Under the second and fifth gables, there are two bays, although the fifth has three windows on the first floor. The left-hand gable is single-bayed, while the two right-hand gables have paired windows separated by shafts, with the upper windows having pointed heads within pointed recesses. The sixth gable is of two bays, and the seventh gable is of one bay, which is partially occupied by a clock tower. This clock tower includes paired lancet openings beneath a pointed stone head with a quatrefoil. Above the tower are clock faces set within stone gables adorned with tracery decoration. The structure is topped with a short spire, currently covered by felt, which features timber lucarnes.
