Description

This is an early 19th-century mill, restored in the early 20th century. It occupies the site of at least one earlier mill. The building is constructed of red brick and sits on a steeply sloping piece of land, resulting in two storeys on the south side and four storeys on the north side. It has five restored windows with semi-circular heads and iron frames featuring interlaced "Y" glazing bars, although some original windows remain. The north side has restored sack doors on the ground and first floors, the latter incorporating a gabled sack hoist. A restored doorway with a wooden gabled porch and three gabled dormers are located on the south side, along with projecting eaves and slate roofing. No original mill machinery remains, but the current owner plans to reinstate a water wheel on the east side. The upper storeys have been converted for living accommodation and modernized. The restoration work was recognized with a Civic Trust Award in 1975.
