Description

No. 260 Hagley Road in Hasbury is a two-storey cottage built from local coursed sandstone, with brick gable-end stacks and a clay-tile roof. Attached to the right gable end is a single-storey nail shop made of brick, also with a tiled roof.

The cottage features a symmetrical entrance front facing south across a long, narrow garden that fronts Hagley Road. The central doorway is flanked by replacement casement windows, with two additional replacement casement windows on the first floor. The nail shop has a shuttered, unglazed window opening. The rear elevation of the cottage is mostly blind, except for a very small, square, unglazed opening with two metal bars. On the left side, there is a mid to late 19th-century single-storey lean-to kitchen extension, which includes a casement window and a re-used fielded and panelled door. The roof at the rear has partially collapsed.

Inside, the cottage has a single room on the ground floor and two rooms on the first floor, which may still have gas lighting. The nail shop has lost its hearth and anvil.

At the rear of the cottage, there is a small yard with a surface of blue engineering brick. One side contains the collapsed remains of a mid to late 19th-century wash house and water closet.
