Description
The Church of St John the Baptist is a parish church that showcases architectural styles ranging from Norman to Perpendicular. It features a nave, aisles, a chancel, and a Perpendicular crossing tower topped with a spire. Notable elements include the Norman west and south doorways and an impressive Norman font. An outer south aisle was added in 1883 by architect John Oldrid Scott. The church also contains monuments to the poet William Shenstone, who died in 1763, and to John Halliday, created by Thomas Banks in 1797. The church, along with its churchyard walls, gates, and churchyard cross, forms a cohesive group.
