Description
39-42 Cannon Street, including 9-15 Needless Alley, is a building dating from around 1900. It is similar in style to No 45 Cannon Street, suggesting it was also designed by the architectural firm Essex, Goodman and Nicol. The building is constructed of pink terracotta and has a slate roof. It stands four storeys high and features four bays that gently curve with the street. The ground floor has a modern shop front, while the first floor showcases canted bay windows that rise through two storeys and end in balconies. These windows are adorned with ause-de-panier arches and decorative, detached scroll-like elements, which are connected vertically by baluster-like shafts. The third floor contains paired arched lights set within ogee-cum-semi-circular pedimented attics that sit against the roof.
