Description
Monyhull Hall is a house built in the 1730s by John Arderne, likely on or near the site of an earlier house. It was remodeled and extended in 1863 for Ezra Millward and served as a psychiatric hospital from around 1905 to 1908. In the early 21st century, it was converted into apartments. The building is constructed of stucco and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and features seven bays arranged in a rhythm of 2:3:2, with the central three bays slightly advanced. The ground floor has banded rustication, a central door flanked by pilasters that support an entablature adorned with volutes draped in foliage, and six sash windows. There is a band at the first floor sill level. The first and second floors have quoins on the left and right, with the central bays marked by giant Corinthian pilasters. The first floor contains seven sash windows, with the center bays being taller and all having moulded surrounds, while the outer bays have eared surrounds. The second floor has seven almost square casement windows in moulded surrounds. An elaborate bracketed eaves cornice completes the design. To the left, there is a two-storey one bay that generally matches the style but has been altered on the ground floor with the addition of a canted bay window.
