Description
The Cobden Hotel, located at 166 Hagley Road in Edgbaston, was built around 1860-1870 and has been altered since its original construction. This two-storey building features a modern attic and is designed in an Italianate style, finished in stucco.
The facade consists of three bays, with quoins on the left and right. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a central entrance flanked by coupled pilasters with palmette capitals, which support an entablature. There are two windows on this level, both with panelled frames and cornices on brackets. A moulded band runs along the first floor level, which has three windows; the central window has a segmental head, while the others are similar to those below. All windows are sash types. The eaves are adorned with a guilloche frieze and a cornice on brackets, alternating with rosette panels. The wings on either side of the building are not listed.
